Local Historic Properties
The Omaha Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission web site is designed to provide the public with access to preservation material for historic buildings in Douglas County, including locally landmarked and National Register properties. It’s a treasure trove of information, including reconnaissance surveys, biographies of architects whose work influenced the development of Omaha’s skyline, a list of frequently asked questions and a variety of collections.
The Meyer Collection, for example, is a series of large format black and white photographs taken by Lynn Meyer from the mid-1970s to the 1990s. Meyer is a former city planner with the City of Omaha Planning Department and served as administrator of the Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission from 1980 to 2007.
